most of it but you did fail to mention the vast number of military trained vet techs/nurses or as the military calls them Animal Care Specialist/Sergeant. (depending on rank) I spent 10 years as a millitary tech at 2 reseach facilities, 30 +or- hosp and clinics. in 7 states and 2 countries. I was appauled when I joined the civilian hospital to find out how few techs are trainined properly. To those of you near a military installation how about asking the NCOIC (just call and ask for that person) of the military clinic if you could join in or forces/experience for continued training
I just realized how old these mesages are. I'm new on line. But we charge an extended office call (1.5 x the reg fee) and have them watch a 10 min video on general health care, vacc, parasite control, spay/neuter, training, nutrition. We also have booklets(8 1/2x11 30-40 pgs) 1 for puppies 1 for kittens that emphasis the above and of course are more detailed. Then the tech aswers any questions or concerns they have. Then we let the DR have them. Our owner is big on prevention and utilizing techs but as I see like most low on pay. Hope that helps
I posted the following in the practice management section without reply--hope you can help:
Over the years I've been irritated when hiring a "tech" (some certified) that implicated they are well skilled only to find out they are lacking and I have to teach procedures. To help in the hiring process and negotiate wages, I've put together a list of procedures. Before I hand them to my two potential hires, ( I told them after they perform these tasks before me they get the salary they want) please add any...thanks
